The book explains how antibiotic resistance is neigh unavoidable and how the presence of antibiotics in hospitals; farms; and waters and the ever increasing concentration of people all contribute to make the antibiotic apocalypse more than likely. Following those two chapters, is a chapter that seems to be the most original work of the author - a collection of herbs which interactions help the systemic and localized herbs - the synergists.

In addition, Herbal Antibiotics contains information about immune boosting herbs and a herbal-medicine and a chapter on herbal medicine making which covers tinctures, decoctions, essential oils, measuring etc.

What drove me to the author is his style. It is rare that someone can convey information in a way that requires no effort from the reader and Stephen Buhner is such a person. One almost reads his book like an adventure book.

Unfortunately, some of the information assumes a level of knowledge that may be way over the head for most people. To be honest, reading anything by Buhner is on the edge of my comfort zone.

On one hand, he sources his statements and prefaces any inference as such. On the other, he seems to believe in homeopathy and conspiracy theories regarding medical companies and he calls himself an earth poet. Nevertheless, the book itself is fine. It runs through the reasons for antibiotic resistance, how and why we can counter this with whole plant rather than reductionist single constituents herbal medicine, a pretty detailed materia medica on each main herb mentioned and how to make your own remedies if so inclined.

I enjoyed so much I raced into the next one. I learned more about the top antibiotic herbs, the effectiveness of antibacterial spices in food, immune system herbs, qualities of and uses for honey, and the different ways to prepare herbs for use.

A quick read, and a good book to keep for reference.

Herbal Antibiotics: Natural Alternatives for Treating Drug Resistant Bacteria

Sara Caldwell These kinds of bios are troublesome. Over the past 40 years I have explored many biographical forms to describe myself and have never been satisfied, in part I think because I have a natural tendency against publicly applauding my accomplishments. And perhaps it is the root of that tendency that whenever I do list what I have accomplished, it always seems inadequate to what I could have done had I been clearer or more mature or possessed fewer limitations or started younger or contemplated more deeply. Or perhaps that is just the way all of us are deep down inside in the place no one else ever sees. I am an interdisciplinary, independent scholar, polymath, Fellow of Schumacher College UK and have been head researcher for the Foundation for Gaian Studies for the past thirty years gaianstudies. I read continually, across a very wide range, and began to do so when I was young, some 30, books so far, 50, or so scientific journal articles, and hundreds of thousands of articles in magazines, newspapers, and online. I have written 23 books, scores of magazine articles, and numerous memoir and fictional short stories and poems.
