Their major client base is private companies and public bodies across the world who are engaged in road-building or the construction of other flat hard surfaces. Although they started off producing agricultural equipment, the HAMM brothers soon found that their speciality was in crafting heavy rollers for road-building projects.
As the road system developed in Germany, their rollers became a common sight on construction projects, supplying the compaction that civil engineers required. Exports to other markets began to take off in the s, with the post-war economic expansion, and customers from across the world sought out HAMM rollers, with their excellent handling and aesthetic appeal.
As road technology changed, HAMM AG adapted newest technologies in the industry, bringing in oscillating rollers in the s which could process more sensitive road materials. The firm even moved into new areas of production, launching a popular soil stabilizer in and merging with the larger Wirtgen Group of companies, giving HAMM market reach across the world. HAMM AG expanded to include tandem rollers, rubber wheel rollers and compact rollers, and the firm established itself as a world leader in its field.
HAMM also invested heavily in new technologies, introducing the Hammtronic system into its rollers, which allows users to automate key functions, saving time and fuel in the process.
HAMM has also perfected a range of different compaction techniques, such as vibrating and oscillation. It has also created a suite of tools for clients to use when measuring the quality of compaction - bundled up in what the company calls "HAMM Compaction Quality.
